About The Rhythms
The Rhythms are:
Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, Stillness
The Rhythms are:
Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, Stillness
Each Rhythm has its own energy field, what we might call its "vibe".
Dancing each Rhythm in turn, we dance "the Wave" - the wave of energy that rises and falls as we dance.
Flowing: we find smooth, continuous movement, travelling in circles, feet connecting us with the Earth, bringing us home to ourselves
Dancing each Rhythm in turn, we dance "the Wave" - the wave of energy that rises and falls as we dance.
Flowing: we find smooth, continuous movement, travelling in circles, feet connecting us with the Earth, bringing us home to ourselves
Staccato: we find discontinuous movement, clear, defined, the body travelling in lines or making shapes and angles, finding clarity of intention and action, making connection with others and with the world around us
Chaos: keeping our feet in the beat, we let go of clarity; we soften, loosen, shake out and shake off; dancing small or dancing wild, we give ourselves permission to let go, surrendering to the moment, and the possibility of change
Lyrical: the dance that arises from the crucible of Chaos, totally unpredictable, sometimes poignant, sometimes joyful, always light and full of breath, opening us to the infinity of our creative potential
Stillness: "still and still moving", slow, with pauses, attention deep within, the movement that comes when there is nothing left but this moment, this breath, this heartbeat
Dancing the Rhythms isn't about learning steps or sequences of movements, or trying to copy certain types of "moves". It's about practising dancing in each of these different energy fields, exploring them and finding in each Rhythm our own unique dance.
Over time, as we keep practising, our dance changes... deepens... grows.
...and so do we
